Susan Wong Lim

Originally from Taiwan and Hong Kong, Susan Wong Lim grew up in Vancouver, where she received her musical training from Jean Lyons, winning many awards in various festivals. In the summers she attended Shawnigan Lake Summer School of the Arts (later the Johannesen International School of the Arts) where she studied with pianists Eduardo del Pueyo, Audrey Johannesen, Katarina Wolpe, John Kozar and Anton Kuerti. After completing the ARCT diploma (Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto), Susan did advanced studies with Audrey Johannesen. At the University of British Columbia she studied with Robert Silverman.

Susan has a strong interest in chamber music, and especially enjoys collaborating with her son Ashton, a cellist. She championed the piano music of Canadian composer, Elliot Weisgarber, but maintains a varied repertoire. Some of her playing has been broadcast on radio.

While living in Manila for one year, Susan taught at the Philippine Women's University. In Vancouver, she maintains a busy teaching schedule. Her students have been very successful in competitions at the local and national levels. She is currently principal of the Jean Lyons School of Music.

Always with a desire to contribute to the community, Susan is the concert chairman of the Vancouver Women's Musical Society, and is on the board of the Vancouver Recital Society.
