Grace Wood
Grace Wood grew up in Southern California and started playing the piano at the age of 7. She holds both Bachelor and Master's degrees in piano performance from the University of Southern California where she received the honor of being named the "Most Outstanding Graduate" upon graduation. Her studies have also taken her to the Artist Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto. Her principal teachers have included Kevin Fitz-Gerald, John Perry and Marc Durand. Over the course of her studies, she has also worked with Leon Fleisher, Andre Laplante, Menahem Pressler, Yohevid Kaplinsky and Paul Schenly.
Grace was a recipient of the Leni Fe Bland Foundation Scholarship for 4 years, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Scholarship, and the Woods' International Piano Scholarship. She has received Grand Prizes in the International Young Artists Peninsula Music Festival Competition, the Redlands Bowl Young Artist Competition and the Music Teachers Association of California competitions to name a few. Her summer activities have brought her to festivals in Banff, Orford and the Hamptons (Pianofest).
In addition to her experience as a pianist and teacher, Grace has held the position of Operations/Educations Manager at the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra in California. Her passion for administration and education has recently brought her to the University of British Columbia where she currently works for the administration of the new science education initiative. She truly enjoys being able to juggle her daytime work and music making.
Since moving to Canada in 2005, Grace has performed recitals with her husband, violinist Jasper Wood across Canada.
