The Vancouver Piano Ensemble is dedicated to the promotion and performance of multi-piano music. Its members comprise Amanda Chan, Chin Yen Lee, Winfried Rompf, Susan Wong Lim and Grace Wood, all of whom are solo and chamber music artistes in their own right.
The group was formed in 2000 and has, since that time, performed at various venues locally, in Greater Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Langley, and further afield, in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, China and Italy, to standing ovations. In 2001 and in 2004 the Ensemble, in collaboration with the renowned Baynov Piano Ensemble from Germany, played concerts for various combinations of pianists, including up to 32 hands on 8 pianos! In 2002, the Ensemble was invited to play as guest artistes, in the opening concert on two pianos (8 hands) as a prelude to the Third International Competition for Piano–Six-Hands, in Marktoberdorf, Germany.
Individual members of the Vancouver Piano Ensemble have performed concerts in various cities in Canada, the USA, Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands and more to critical acclaim. The group has been filmed on Bavaria State TV, Slovakia, and in Italy. In addition, the music recorded by the VPE on its two CDs has been heard on national radio in Canada in various country-wide programs.
